2k15 Goals

My last post detailed my resolutions for 2015—the things I wanted to do differently this year. I like to classify resolutions, though, as something different than just goals. Goals can encircle resolutions, but they also include one-time things and specific achievements that one doesn’t necessarily need to “do better” but simply “do.” This post is just a quick overview of the things I’d like to get done in 2k15.

Read 30 books. Last year was a dry spell for reading for me. I read mostly what was assigned to me, and the books I did read for fun weren’t all my favorites. I read a few because I felt obligated to—a teacher wrote a few books that I felt I needed to read simply because I admire him as a teacher, there was a series I wasn’t really feeling but I wanted to re-read it for nostalgia purposes… I really liked a few (which I’ll address in a vlog or blog sometime soon), but I feel like I haven’t been reading enough books for pleasure.

Finish that awful fanfiction series you’ve got going on DA. So… I’ve been writing a reader insert fanfiction thing on DeviantART. It’s got a small following, and I don’t want to disappoint my friends I’ve met through this, so I have to finish it. It’s been a year since I began the thing… I really need to just step up and finish it. Then it won’t be weighing on my conscience, and I can proudly display one of the best things I’ve ever written (even if it’s a fanfiction that I don’t really like anymore, I have to say it’s some of my best prose…)

Finish 100 days of guitar practice on GiveIt100.comIf you’ve never heard of GiveIt100, it’s a website that lets you upload a 10-second video of you working on a skill once a day. It doesn’t have to be 100 days in a row, so that works for a busy, stressed person like me. People use it for things like weight loss—you see people on day 1 who were pretty large, and by the 100th day they look happier, healthier, and so much more confident in their own skin. The founder of the site taught herself to dance in 100 days. The progress is pretty cool to watch. ANYways, all that to say: I’m using it to help motivate me to learn the guitar. So far I’ve got 3 videos up, and I’m hoping to reach day 100 this year. Even after just a few practice sessions I’ve improved so much, and I can’t imagine how pleased I’ll be with myself if I reach day 100.

You can stalk my progress here.

Record a song I wrote. So… I write songs. None of them are very good, but they’re fun. I also want to record a cover of a song I really like, so I’ll include that with this. I just need to find a time and the equipment.

Win NaNoWriMo again. I know, I know… I’m planning ahead. But I gotta win this year! NaNo is awesome!

Use your new planner. I received a beautiful planner with pictures of New Zealand on it from some family friends, and I’m very bad at staying organized. I really need to work on keeping track of schoolwork and events, so this year I aim to use my super pretty and awesome gift to stay on top of things.

That’s about all I have for now, though I’m sure there will be other things I want to do this year. Nothing else is coming to mind, though, so I’ll have to leave it at this for now. These are the things I’d like to get done in the new year. I’ll make a post at the end of this year to highlight what I did and whether or not I accomplished all of this. Wish me luck! I’m super pumped for 2015—it’s going to be a great year!

  1. I haven’t heard of GiveIt100 before, but I love that idea! I’m been wanting to learn German so this would be a good opportunity. 🙂 Hope you come across some great books as well! 🙂
